Our steamed Custard Buns are delightful on their own, but when paired with a luscious chocolate dip, they become absolutely irresistible. The creamy custard meets the rich chocolate, hitting every inch of your taste buds with pure joy.

The ganache is a piece of cake to make – just mix melted chocolate with double cream. But the secret to making it even more epic? Add a drop of white miso for a hint of umami that takes this dip to heavenly heights.

While your dinner companions are basking in their post-dumpling glory, pop the Custard Buns in to steam and whip up the dessert of all desserts.

Place the buns on a plate in the centre of the table with the bowl of chocolate ganache. Let everyone tear those buns apart and dip, scrape, and savour every last bit of that chocolate goodness. Trust us, their hearts will be as full as their bellies!


Steamed Custard Buns with Chocolate Ganache - Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4x Ding Dong Dim Sum Custard Buns
  • 150g dark chocolate
  • 2 tbsp double cream
  • ½ tsp white miso (optional)

Method:

  1. Take one Custard Bun per person and place in your steamer. Each one has a little circle of baking paper underneath to stop it sticking, so don’t forget to peel this off before you eat it!
  2. Steam the Custard Buns for around 13-15 minutes.
  3. Weigh out 150g of dark chocolate and melt it. Either use a heatproof bowl over a small pan of boiling water (preferred method) or the microwave in short 20-30 second bursts. If microwaving, check and stir the chocolate between each burst to prevent burning.
  4. Measure two tablespoons of double cream and slowly stir into the melted chocolate.
  5. Add your white miso if using. It’s now ready!

Serve with the freshly steamed custard buns and enjoy the dessert of your dreams.
