Recipe: Sui Mai Dumplings with Noodles

Sometimes, the best meals are the ones you make at home. Recently, we tried our hand at cooking Sui Mai and Noodles, and the results were nothing short of delicious. This recipe, a heavenly combination of succulent Sui Mai dumplings and tasty stir-fried noodles, is bound to become a regular at your dinner table.

It all starts with a few ingredients and six little dumplings. We don’t mean to blow our own trumpet, but… oh, who are we kidding? Of course we do! Our Sui Mai is simply spectacular. Each dumpling might look unassuming, but one bite reveals a world of flavour and meatiness far beyond what you’d expect. You should take your time to eat these. Bite each one in half to give yourself double the pleasure.

Paired with stir-fried egg noodles tossed in a savoury mix of soy and oyster sauce, and finished with the crunch of fresh bean sprouts, this dish is a symphony of textures and flavours. And let’s be honest, it looks pretty darn beautiful on your plate, too.

The best part? This dish is deceptively simple to make. In just under half an hour, you’ll have a restaurant-quality meal ready to impress your family or guests.

Sui Mai and Noodles Recipe

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • Pouch of Ding Dong Dim Sum Mixed Sui Mai or two portions of Prawn and Sweetcorn Sui Mai/Prawn and Pork Sui Mai
  • 2 cakes of egg noodles
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • A handful or two of bean sprouts
  • 2 spring onions, sliced
  • Red chilli, chopped (optional)
  • Steamed broccoli to serve

Method:

Steam the Sui Mai

  1. Line a bamboo steamer with parchment paper (or cabbage leaves if you’re feeling traditional).
  2. Prepare your steamer either spraying with some oil or using a steamer sheet.
  3. Arrange the Sui Mai in your bamboo steamer, giving them some room to breathe as they do grow a bit as they’re cooking! Steam over simmering water for about 15 minutes.

Get Prepped

  1. Slice the spring onions and chop the chilli if using.
  2. Mix your sauce ingredients together so they’re ready to chuck in at the right moment.

Cook the Noodles

  1. Cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions. (Or just wing it, we won’t tell.) Drain and set aside.
  2. In a wok or large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, but not burnt. (Burnt garlic = sad noodles.)
  3. Turn up the heat and throw in the cooked noodles, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes until the noodles are coated and glistening with deliciousness.
  4. Add the bean sprouts and stir for another minute. You want them crunchy, not soggy.
  5. Toss in the spring onions. Give it all one last mix.

Serve

  1. Plate up your noodles into two bowls or plates. Sprinkle with the chopped chilli.
  2. Top with your freshly steamed Prawn Sui Mai, letting them bask in the noodle glory.
  3. Serve with a small dish of Ding Dong Dim Sum Classic Dipping Sauce for dipping, because more sauce is never a bad thing.

Enjoy

Sit back, grab your chopsticks, and dive into your Sui Mai and Noodles!

Much Love. X
